The converter or charger is the backbone of shore-power charging. If its voltage profile, output or wiring does not match the battery bank, a battery upgrade can never perform as well as it should. The charging source and the battery need to be reviewed together.

Common questions

Does every lithium upgrade need a new converter?

No. Some existing chargers already have a suitable lithium profile or output. The model, settings and actual charging voltage should be checked before replacing equipment.

Is a larger converter always better?

No. The battery bank, conductor size, branch protection and the manufacturer charging limits all matter. Charger output should be sized as part of the whole DC system.

Can solar and the converter charge at the same time?

They often can. Each charging source should be compatible with the battery chemistry and configured so the combined system behaves predictably.
