A lithium conversion is more than swapping one battery chemistry for another. The existing converter or charger, solar controller, tow-vehicle charging, cable size, overcurrent protection, disconnects and monitoring all need to make sense with the new battery bank.

Common questions

Can lithium batteries just replace the existing batteries?

Sometimes the physical swap is simple, but the charging equipment and protection still need to be checked. A converter, solar controller or tow-charge circuit designed around lead-acid batteries may not be the best match for the new bank.

How much lithium capacity does an RV need?

Capacity depends on the loads, how long you want to camp between charges, how much solar or vehicle charging is available and whether an inverter will power larger 120V appliances.

Does an RV need a battery monitor with lithium?

A shunt-based monitor is often useful because lithium voltage stays relatively flat through much of its usable capacity. It can provide a much clearer picture of energy going in and out of the battery bank.
